Vantage Bar

Sports Bar Auckland International Airport (NZ) 2017-2019 Vantage Bar is the largest of the Auckland airport tenancies and the most complex. With 450 sqM over two levels, a new mezzanine, curved staircase, 2 bars and a 6 metre high feature LED screen there is a lot to love about this project! The design intent was to create a modern version of a traditional sports bar, whilst adapting the design and materials to create an interior that was inviting for all demographics. The internal colour palette took inspiration from New Zealand’s natural environment, teal for the water in the sounds, mustard referring back to gorse from the mountain region, mixed in with warm walnut and brass highlights to create a juxtaposition between traditional and modern pub interior. With the large digital screen as a focal point I created cosy booth seating areas and used low height walls with brass framing to help demarcate spaces to create a intimate ambiance for the customers whilst they indulge in pre flight viewing on the digital screens and enjoy the views over the airstrip through the 9 metre high glazed wall. The main bar has a brass / chain lighting feature overhead to create a presence and soft lighting.

Under the mezzanine the back wall has been turned into an illuminated cool room to showcase the wine offering. Cosy low booth seating against the window to work with the low 2400m ceiling height.
