Restaurant Canberra Airport (AU) 2019 The brief from ARE was to design a restaurant that links to the tenancy’s Asian fusion menu while complementing the airport’s light and modern interior. The layout was designed to offer two separate dining experiences: the right side tailored around a sushi bar with the sushi on display in chilled units and low stool customer seating mixed with bar seating, while the left side is more focused on a sitdown hawker-style experience with views into the cookline. To strengthen the Asian fusion theme, it was important to provide these different options and ensure they seamlessly work together. Connecting the spaces is the polished concrete floor with central tile inlay that scatters out to either side, in addition the overhead feature mesh panels transition between the two separate zones, and links back to both the mesh servery canopy that runs across the joint counter, and the framing to the feature bamboo walls, creating visual cohesion.
